About the Project

I’m writing a forthcoming book with the Routledge Eye on Education series, Bringing Religious Literacy to the Classroom: Global Competence for K–12 Social Studies. This text will help educators navigate constitutionally sound, academically grounded, and culturally responsive ways to teach about religion across grade levels.

Your stories, insights, and classroom experiences can make this work come alive. I’m looking to feature authentic teacher voices throughout the book to show the real-world possibilities and challenges of religious literacy education.

Who I’m Looking For

Educators in any grade level (K–16), from any subject area or geographic location, who have:

  • Taught lessons that touch on religion(s) (history, literature, geography, art, etc.)
  • Connected religious literacy education to global competence or cultural understanding
  • Used inquiry, lived religion approaches, field trips, guest speakers, or media resources to teach about religion
  • Faced challenges or “aha” moments in teaching about religion in the classroom

Ways to Contribute

You can share:

  • A short story (3–6 sentences) about a moment that resonated
  • A classroom strategy you’ve used successfully
  • A reflection on what you’ve learned from teaching about religion
  • A piece of advice for other educators teaching about religion

Your contribution may appear as:

  • A quote in the margins
  • A sidebar
  • An integrated example within a chapter

How to Share Your Story

  1. Fill out the quick form here.
  2. Indicate if you want your name, school, and location included — or remain anonymous.
  3. Upload any relevant photos, lesson artifacts, or links (optional).

Topics & Chapter Connections

You’re welcome to share stories that connect with any of these:

  • Why religious literacy matters in your teaching
  • Connecting global competence to religious literacy
  • Moving beyond “factoids” into lived religion
  • Elementary challenges and strategies
  • Inquiry lessons in secondary classrooms
  • Field trips, guest speakers, and media

Why Your Voice Matters

This book isn’t just about my work with religious literacy education. It is about building a group of educator voices to guide and inspire others. Whether you’ve been teaching about religion for years or tried it once, your perspective can help shape how educators approach this important work. Let’s show that teaching about religion is powerful in today’s classrooms.

📅 Story submissions accepted now through February 1, 2026.
